Meet Fanaat
We are Fanaat, the games association of the University of Twente. Based in the Drakenkelder, we offer a wide range of board games, card games, role-playing games, console games, and many other ways for our members to have fun together. Whether you plan to spend hours fighting battles in Warhammer, prefer to immerse yourself in D&D using our dungeon display, or simply want to play some cards during the lunch break, there is something for everyone at Fanaat!
Fanaat’s regular game nights take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 19:00 onwards. Board games are the most popular during these nights, though anything from our collection can of course be played. Additionally, we organise a theme night every second Friday. The theme can range from party games to an interactive murder mystery, and members are encouraged to come up with their own ideas.
Once every other month we also organise the Fanaat Open: a day-long event where everyone, including externals, can visit our association and play games from our collections. This is the perfect time to invite your friends and try out new games together.
Finally, we offer several one-off events throughout the year. These events include, but are not limited to, roleplaying workshops, Magic drafts, seasonal activities, and wargaming events.

Board Game Nights at Fanaat
Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, the DrakenKelder fills with games, laughter, and friendly competition. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or just curious to try something new, you’re welcome to join! Walk-in is usually between 19:00 and 19:30, but feel free to arrive earlier or later. Just pick a game that looks interesting and ask around—there’s always someone happy to join.
You can start simple with a round of Set or codenames. Feeling like coop games are more your thing? Try The crew or Pandemic. For something more long and complex try Terraforming mars, Barrage or Catan.
Looking for a truly long game session? During holidays, members sometimes organize marathon sessions of games like Sleeping Gods or Advanced Civilization. Fair warning: these sessions can last 12+ hours!
Some evenings we gather a larger group for Blood on the Clocktower, a thrilling 5–20 player social deduction game similar to Mafia or Werewolf. A storyteller guides the game as villagers and demons secretly battle for control. Can you uncover the truth—or will suspicion turn the village against you?
Want to know more about the games in our inventory? Check out our Boardgame List.

Want to join?
As a member, you will be able to join all our activities for free and use our extensive collection of games and resources. Becoming a member is easy and the contribution is only €20,- per academic year. Of course, it is possible to join us a couple of times during our game nights to see what we offer before becoming a member. We are always happy to answer any questions you might have, whether it’s in person, through our Discord, or via email.
To become a member of Fanaat you need to follow these steps:
- You need to own a Union Card or Campus Card. This can be done through Sports and Culture.
- Either fill in the sign-up forms digitally and send these to our secretary, or do so physically at the Drakenkelder.
- Transfer the contribution of €20,- to Fanaat’s bank account as stated on the sign-up form. It is also possible to pay by card at the Drakenkelder.
- This step is important, and it is regularly done incorrectly. Only at this point do you go to Sports and Culture and register with the association Fanaat, available under ‘My profile > Join Association’. If you have not yet completed the previous steps, your registration will be refused.
Not part of the UT community (anymore)? Consider visiting our game day Fanaat Open, which is open to everyone!
